Ping Sim Server (EN)

Ping Sim Server

Warning: These datas are relatively indiscreet, do not give them to whoever!

To identify the traffic jam which possibly prevents to send a correct flow towards the viewer, we proceed to various tests to analyze where it could be situated in his route towards the LL servers, a 'pinc traceroute server' is one of them.

Below, two manners to proceed and how to decode the results.

Easy process:

Installing and using the WinMTR network tool is a must. It combines ping and traceroute testing functions in a single easy-to-use tool which is on this page (Direct link)

Clic on the link → Save to... → Unpack (r-click → 7zip → unpack here) → Launch (l-click on the executable).

On to Phoenix :
→ Help → About... → copy the address "simXXXX.agni.lindenlab.com", where XXXX is the sim identity which your avatar is on.

On to the winMTR window, in 'Host', paste this address.

The result displays at once:
WinMTR

Ctrl-C/V will copy and paste the table in any document.

Standard console process:

Under Windows, the command invit 'tracert' (Traceroute) will indicate, relay after relay, the flow's running between your viewer and the servers, also the accumulated time that every stage takes to answer.

1) On to the viewer → Help → About... → copy the address "simXXXX.agni.lindenlab.com", where XXXX is the sim identity which your avatar is on.
2) Start button → Execute:
- It opens the dialog box Execute.
3) Type on 'cmd' → OK :
- The Windows console will open, by default a black window.
4) By typing 'tracert' -spacebar- r-click/paste, we have:
- tracer simXXXX.agni.lindenlab.com
5) Hit Enter

Result is such as shown below:
Console Windows

6) Anywhere on to the console: R-click → select
7) Table top left: click'n'hold L-click → select the area to copy → r-click

On to any doc: R-click → paste or Ctrl-V will paste the table.

How to decode the results:

In both table shown above, the * indicate that the router blocks ICMP packages (ping protocol), thus no time is available, but it does not prevents the network packages to passing through.

The final time, 167 ms, as shown at the last line, is correct.

If it exceeds 500 ms (1/2 sec), you can deduct two things about it:
- If you are several, from various countries or continents, to obtain the same result, the sim where you are on to is terribly laggy.
- If you are the only one concerned, it maybe simply is the connection towards your viewer which is badly established.

Direct consequence of it: your clothes do not load, your TP's do not work, your IM are crappy and you can not make nothing.

If only the server is concerned, the last line, disconnect from this black hole and reconnect somewhere else will probably resolve the problem*.

If it goes a line up, you cannot by-pass it. It belongs to somebody else to resolve it, LL, your provider, whatsoever, but you can not do nothing about it.

If this test indicates from the very beginning a 500 ms time, the black hole will follow you because it comes directly from your home.

At this point, you may face one of these issues:
- A heavy bandwidth consumer throttles it, such as cable TV, movie up/download, on-line game, etc... ;
- A material problem arose at the Windows starting up session and\or your router badly established the connection with your provider, or similar.

In the 1st case, slap everybody, kick the kids to their bed, switch off the damn TV and go back quietly to your game ;,)
In the 2nd one, restart the whole kit and caboodle by calling upon the big boss so that works...

* In the most improbable case where you fell again on a sim settled on the same server, you can always check it here.
